We’re so glad you’re here! Wondering how to begin your dog training journey in the South Puget Sound? You found the right place! Here's how everything works at Happy Dog Institute.
First, choose the right path for you and your dog.
Do you have a puppy and are looking for training and socialization, or is your dog fearful, barking, and you need help today? There are three ways to figure out where to engage with our trainers and how to get started at Happy Dog Institute.
1. Take our class placement quiz.
Unsure where to begin? Just click to get started and our quiz will walk you through a few questions before suggesting your first training class.
2. Read through our offerings.
You can also check out our services pages to find the class that looks like the best fit for you and your dog.
3. Still not sure what the best fit is? Contact us!
We're here to help! If you aren't sure if your dog is ready for a group class, or if you have questions about age requirements, class times, or anything at all, please call us.
Once you've chosen a class, register in our online portal.
Sign up for the class you’ve chosen and watch your email.
You’ll receive an automated message that gives you everything you need to get started, including details, a few to-dos, and access to our portal. Most group classes include a video orientation from your instructor.
If you signed up for private training, your email will include a link to book your sessions.
Complete orientation and get ready for your first class!
If you signed up for a group class, watch the orientation video and gather any supplies and treats we recommend before the first day of training.
If you signed up for private training, sign up for your sessions and fill out your intake paperwork before your first one.
No matter what kind of training you and your dog are starting, be sure to read our FAQs page to make sure you get your questions answered before you walk through the door.
We hope you’re excited to get started. We’re excited to see you, too!
Tackle your homework and practice with your dog at home.
Yes, classes have homework but it’s totally doable.
Once you learn training skills, you should start practicing them with your dog at home every day. Remember: the two of you are learning new behaviors as a team. The more you practice, the better you’ll get and the more ready you’ll be to add the new skills you learn at each session into your daily training.
Training is all about positive, incremental progress and forming an even stronger bond with your furry companion. As you continue to incorporate the things you've learned into your daily interactions with your dog, it will start to become second nature for you both.
